Get Involved

La Raza Youth Leadership is currently seeking motivated and dedicated board members. The one (1) day event is held annual in the spring on the Auraria Campus. This year's conference is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 2012. In order to organize the largest Chicano/Mexicano/Latino youth leadership conference in the state, a dedicated group of volunteers make up the La Raza Youth Leadership Board of Directors. The Board meets monthly during the fall and biweekly during the spring to organize and plan for the upcoming conference. Below is our mission and expectations of new board members. Board Expectations:

The mission of La Raza Youth Leadership is to empower Chicano/Mexicano/Latino youth achieve their full educational, economic, leadership, and social potential, and to develop respect, commitment and responsibility toward their communities. To this end, La Raza Youth Leadership Institute (LRYLI, Inc.), strives to achieve the following goals:

  1. Promote the importance of education, especially post-secondary education/training
  2. Explore career opportunities
  3. Increase self-esteem, self-confidence, and leadership skills
  4. Foster positive relationships between and amongst the diverse populations that make up the Latino community
  5. Develop a sense of community, reaffirming cultural identity and pride
  6. Examine male and female responsibility issues; and
  7. Provide information strategies and techniques for parents, counselors, and teachers to help achieve the mission of LRYLI, Inc.

Board Responsibilities & Expectations:

LRYLC board member is required to:

  1. Believe in and actively supports the mission of the LRYLI, Inc.
  2. Chair a sub-committee of the Conference
  3. Regularly attend monthly board meetings and important related meetings
  4. Volunteer for and willingly accept assignments and completes them thoroughly and on time
  5. Stay informed about committee matters, prepares themselves well for meetings, and review and comment on minutes and reports
  6. Get to know other committee members and build a working and supportive relationship that contributes to consensus
  7. Actively participate in the board's annual evaluation and planning efforts
  8. Participate in fund raising for the organization
  9. Annually contribute financially to the board
  10. Exercise complete confidentiality in regards to all LRYLI, Inc. discussions, correspondence and other sensitive information
